Two men, namely John Aveyard of Holbeck and George Michael of Cross Gates, have this week been handed a combined fine of more than £1,350 for the fraudulent use of Disabled parking badges. The hearing, at Leeds Magistrates Court, found both men guilty of the illegal use of these badges, which are handed out by the council to aid the disabled in parking.

On May 8th 2013, Aveyard was caught red handed by an enforcement officer using the badge to park in a disabled spot. The officer questioned John, who initially claimed to be dropping the badge holder off at the shops, however on further interrogation he buckled and just drove off. When the badge was checked, it was found to below to an individual who passed away two years ago.

In a similar incident the following day, Michael’s car was discovered parked in another disabled bay. When it was later discoursed that the rightful owner of his badge had died a number of months ago, he admitted to his fraudulent ways.
