4 Different Types of Fire Alarm Systems

Most people may not even realise that there are multiple different types of fire alarm systems that all have different functions that make them suitable for different buildings and circumstances. In this blog, we here at Taybell will explore 4 different types of fire alarm systems and how the different characteristics may benefit you and your property.

1) Addressable

An addressable fire alarm system consists of a network of fire detectors and devices that are linked to a central control panel.

Each device in an addressable system has an address or location, allowing the exact detector that was triggered to be quickly identified. Addressable fire systems can also send data to the user, such as the exact location of a fire. These are appropriate for larger businesses, such as office buildings, hotels, and factories, where searching for a fire could take a long time.

2) Radio

Radio (or wireless) fire alarms function similarly to addressable systems; however, as the name implies, everything operates without the use of wires. This makes the system ideal for addresses with multiple buildings, such as a school or business park.

3) Conventional

Most rules stipulate that conventional fire alarms be installed as a bare minimum. Small enterprises, offices, warehouses, and shops will benefit from this product.

4) Twin

A two-wire fire alarm system is based on the same technology as a traditional system and is frequently used for smaller applications or when money is limited. These systems are excellent solutions for ensuring that safety and security requirements are adhered to at a minimal cost.

The detectors, call points, and alarm devices for each zone are wired on the same set of two-core zone cables back to the control panel in a two-wire system. This allows it to use a single circuit per zone instead of requiring a separate sounder circuit zone. This will also cut installation costs and time.
